The same argument is made when it comes to eating. “I am always on the road, I can’t afford to eat…” is a common excuse. Don’t. Understand the basics of how your metabolism processes food: carbohydrates (sugars, starches) provide fast energy that must be used within hours or it becomes fat. Proteins are slower and provide a trickle of energy over many hours. Eating for fast energy before a day in front of the computer or TV is as dangerous to your body as eating for slow energy right before a day in the yard or hiking. There are selections for everyone, even in fast food land. Chipotle sells bowls of rice (carb, fast), beans (protein, slow), meat (protein, slow), and salad (fiber, should be always in your dishes). Subway makes bowls, too. Get the Double Chicken one, no cheese, oil and vinegar, and it’s a perfect low-carb meal before a flight. Get a rice bowl before that yard work.
