The citrus season in the northern hemisphere lasts from November through June, and orange juice deteriorates quickly once the fruit is squeezed—its enzymes cause changes in clarity, texture, and flavor, and its high sugar level attracts both bacteria and mold. Nonetheless, a half-gallon jug of “fresh,” not-from-concentrate orange juice is available from any American supermarket all year round.
