“I’ve seen plenty of mutterings that it’s not just authors who fake reviews, that other people in the industry do it too. Well, if that’s the case, it needs to stop. A blanket ban on staff reviewing anyone’s books would be a good start. That’ll deal with the issue of fake positive reviews for their own authors and malicious negative reviews for competing books. Perhaps some companies already have such a prohibition in place; if so, they need to both police it and publicise it.”
